Shadows at Night
He lies there peacefully, hopes for silence
Nocturnal he is, only the meals come at moon
That is his world, opposite of noon
Hopes to begin journey when most at snooze
And that’s when those who sink deep lose
He is a predator but more heinous
Like a child, so mischievous
True, he has a family to feed
So seeks desperately as he’s in need
Troublesome, most have pleaded
But some know the hunt, so they’ve fled
When too naughty, that’s when the guard on fours
Purrs as he takes his tours, that’s his daily chores
That’s when the notorious falls
And did you know by day he walks with two
By night walks in fours
Stealthy he is, that’s what laziness pays
But does he know of the sweat that pains?
That’s labor for victims, the mark that stains
No one forgives a take that drains
Does he really know in labor sweat is blood, the achievements are the stain?
